The musical show “The Hunchback of Notre-Dame” is characterized by the distinctive techniques used in the decor, lighting, and costumes of the characters to give more credibility to the show, whose tales are inspired by the tales of Paris.
The performances of the play, which began yesterday, Wednesday, at Bakr Al Sheddi Theater in Boulevard Riyadh City, will continue as part of the activities of Riyadh Calendar until Friday.
The play is characterized by the careful selection and designs of the characters’ clothing, in imitation of the fashion patterns at the time that the story deals with. The events of the play take place in a specific time frame that simulates medieval European societies through the show that embodies the famous historical novel.
“The Hunchback of Notre Dame” utilizes the latest audiovisual technologies in an amazing artistic way, in which the actors’ movements harmonize with the impact of live music and lighting on all sides of the stage.
The play tells the story of the child “Quasimodo”, who is a miserable orphan from a gypsy family. Frollo takes the child to raise him in the Notre Dame Cathedrale and trains him to be the bell ringer. The matter soon develops when the child is chosen as an actor in the annual “Clown Festival”, which Frollo opposes, but the course of events changes quickly.
The novel was written by the French writer Victor Hugo, but it was edited and dramatized by the author Jassem Al Jalahma.
