In the midst of a large presence in Al-Suwaidi Park in Riyadh, one of the 15 entertainment zones of Riyadh Season 2022, the Indonesian performance troupe presented distinguished performances of local folk dances.
Through the performances, the attendees learned about aspects of the Indonesian people’s heritage and artistic culture, including folk songs, dances, and local and international musical instruments.
The performances of Sri Lankan folklore groups and their distinctive songs continue at Al-Suwaidi Park, as part of the activities of Riyadh Season 2022, through the “Indonesian and Sri Lankan Community Week” hosted by the park this week, and ends on Saturday 12 November.
Sri Lanka is characterized by a rich folklore heritage because it has been home to many civilizations throughout history.
In turn, Indonesian folklore is distinguished by its connection to fairy tales that have been passed down by generations for centuries. In the Indonesian language, folklore is called “duneng,” meaning (tale), or “chrita rakyat” meaning (people’s story), two expressions that reveal the nature and themes of these arts.
The Indonesian pavilion contains a corner to serve famous local meals, most notably the dish (Bakmi Goreng), which is Indonesian rice or noodles with vegetables, fried eggs and meat, cooked with local spices. Another dish is rice cooked with coconut milk, meat and vegetables (Nasi Udok). There are also other dishes, including the famous fried chicken (Ayam Goreng), as well as fried catfish with rice (Bakil leel), and steamed fish (Pepis Ikan), among other delicious dishes.
Al-Suwaidi Park is one of the main landmarks of the city of Riyadh. It was established in 1983 in the well-known Al-Suwaidi neighborhood in the south of the capital, with a distinguished style that extends over an area of more than 100,000 square meters. It includes many facilities that add an atmosphere of pleasure to all visitors, including a family garden, walking and running tracks, seating areas, restaurants and cafes, and areas for children, such as swings and various games.
Due to its many features, the park has been chosen to host a range of the activities of Riyadh Season 2022, which has various options and includes many entertainment elements, including games, cafes and restaurants, in addition to fireworks, concerts and local and international shows.
