Tomorrow, Thursday, 16 November, Riyadh Season 2022 witnesses the return of the football field’s philosopher, the star of the Saudi national team and Al-Hilal Club, Captain Yousuf Al-Thunayan, through the play “Al Faylasoof” (the philosopher), which will be shown in Studio 1, about 40 years after Al-Thunayan scored his first goal in the league in 1983.
The philosopher is characterized by being a dramatic play, based on integrated audiovisual presentation techniques, conveying to the drama and sports audience human and sports details about the biography of the player, who is one of the icons of Saudi football and one of its most prominent stars in the previous decades.
The play, which will be shown in Boulevard Riyadh City, is one of the most prominent entertainment attractions in the second half of November in the activities of Riyadh Season. Yousuf Al-Thunayan has some of the best individual skills and charming touches in football. He is known for his critical passes in the Saudi League and the number of championships in which he played with the Saudi national team.
One of the memorable matches that Al-Thunayan played was with the Saudi national team against the Chinese national team in the quarter-finals of the 1996 AFC Asian Cup. China was leading 2-0 in the first 30 minutes of the match. Then, the Portuguese coach of the Saudi team, Vingada, sent in Al-Thunayan to replace another player. One minute later, Al-Thunayan scored a goal. Two more goals were scored by his teammates before he scored the fourth goal just before the end of the match, making the final score 4-3 for the Saudi team, which ended up winning the match and, later on, the championship.
